See What Had Happened Was ...
Lots of good stuff this past week ...
Even though its one of the more recent items, I am going to start with it because I am so pumped. I want to give a HUGE Congrats to my Texas Longhorns who snatched up their fourth straight BIG XII Indoor Track and Field Conference Championship yesterday (... in aTm's new arena!). Great job men! It was awesome to see so many young guys on the team step up, take responsibility, and then execute with confidence. Special side congrats to Germain Fernandez, who gave one of the more impressive performances I have ever seen yesterday. Runners like him don't make my life easy, but do make it fun. I wouldn't have it any other way ...
The next topic, my training, was something that went well this week too. Being at the beginning of a new training system, I was interested to see how my body would react to the new layout, even though the training itself wouldn't be extremely different or difficult for this first week. Well, my body responded very much to my liking. I felt good all week and had a great variety of training. I was able to do a speed session Monday, an endurance workout Tuesday, an uptempo progressive longer run on Wednesday, an easy day on Thursday, a double track session of AT and then race pace economy work on Friday, a recovery run on Saturday, and a long 2hr5min (20 mi.) steady run on Sunday. I even got the pleasure of running into and then with Leo today (Sunday) for the second half of my run. He got back from Mexico yesterday and it was nice to get the chance to run with my bro again. Good start to what I think is going to be a great partnership with a new coach and a new training style.
Lastly, I am now an athlete mentor and tutor with The University of Texas, which I am really excited about! The opportunity to work with other student athletes, who are now experiencing a lot of what I have already been through, is really exciting for me. I am happy to be able to give back to the school what I can, with what I have, even though its not much.
Hope everyone else had a great week as well and Hook 'Em.
